Denmark is the smallest of the 4 Scandinavian countries, but it packs a lot of gusto, history, food and charm, all with that quintessential “hygge”. A land which is pretty flat, with with farms and Viking burial mounds, its Danish countryside villages are filled with charm and local culture not to be missed.
Copenhagen, the capital, is a city so cosmopolitan and fun, but feels kinda like a small town in a weird but amazing way. Ranked as one of the most liveable cities, its hard not to see why… with bold forward thinking architecture and design, people riding bikes everywhere, and a food scene that ranks as one of the best in the world. The cobbled streets, canals & colourful harbour Nyhaven, palaces and markets make it a dreamy city, that is a true gem.
There is definitely more to Denmark, with the city of Roskilde… the Viking capital, where the UNESCO cathedral dominates from 12th century, and the Viking museum houses one of the best preserved Viking ships ever to be uncovered.
In the north, the Jutland peninsular, more Viking sites are all around, visit the unique rhinestones at Jelling or delve truly into Viking culture with dinner at Lindholm Hoje. Small rural towns of Aarhus and Vejle offer a unique small town look into Danish life… but you want a true feel of Danes at play and relaxing head to Skagen… at the top of Jutland.
